This poignant realisation fueled Sophie’s determination to create an organisation dedicated to empowering women through training in income-generating skills and activities.I need your cooperation to make my dream come true.”
Mr. Yiga Augustine
Augustine Yiga, the Director of TORUWU, brings a wealth of experience and compassion to his role. With a background in the banking sector and a strong belief in social justice, Augustine transitioned into social work after retiring, driven by a profound desire to uplift marginalised women in society.
Recognizing the interconnectedness of women, children, and youth within the family unit, they expanded TORUWU’s focus beyond women to include children’s education, a brass band, and physiotherapy exercises for disabled children. Together, Sophie and Augustine forged a partnership that laid the foundation for TORUWU’s holistic approach to community development. Their shared commitment to empowering women, advocating for social justice, and fostering sustainable change has guided TORUWU’s evolution into a multifaceted organisation that addresses the intersecting needs of women and their families in rural Uganda.
